Rachel Clare Hurd-Wood was born on 17th August 1990 in Streatham, London, England. Her parents are Philip and Sarah Hurd-Wood. During her second year, she joined a drama club in her school and took part in its stage production. She studied in Rodborough Technology College in Milford, Surrey from 2001 to 2006. During this period she performed in Peter Pan in Australia. After that she attended sixth-form Godalming College from 2006 to 2008 to study for her GCE Advanced Levels. She lovers dolphin and wanted to becoming a marine biologist but when she known it would require studying science, she gave up it, because she was not very good in science. She studied linguistics from 2008 at University College London, having completed her first year in 2009, but could not complete it, due to filming of Tomorrow, When the War Began. Her film debut was Peter Pan in which she performed the role of Wendy Darling. She was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor and a Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Feature Film Leading Young Actress. She played the character Imogen Helhoughton in the 2004 TV film Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking. In 2004, she played a lead role as Betsy Bell in the thriller An American Haunting, in which she performed as a girl who is haunted by an unrelenting demon. She was nominated for the 2006 Teen Choice Awards in the category Movie Choice Scream for her role. In 2005, she appeared in Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. She was nominated for the "Best Supporting Actress" award at the 33rd Saturn Awards by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films for her role. In 2007, she appeared as a waitress in the music video for the song "A Little Bit" by Madeleine Peyroux. In 2008, she played as Meredith Crowthorn in the film Solomon Kane. After that she appeared in the film Dorian Gray based on the Oscar Wilde novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray. She was cast as Corrie Mackenzie in the 2009 Australian action-adventure film Tomorrow, When the War Began, based on the novel by John Marsden.
